R7. Del Basso Smallgoods-roma Cup - 1 January 1970
|
King & Queen of WA Racing
Luckygray is impossible to tip against, he is an absolute marvel and a machine. Coming to the back end of a glorified career his trial was effortless and carrying only 2kg more than Magnifisio and drawn perfectly for his best mate Shaun O'Donnell I think he can get the chocolates (or sausages) in the Del Basso Smallgoods Roma Cup. 3 Grey's engaged with Luckygray, Gris Caro and De Andes all taking their place in the field but he's the only one who will be making ground over the final furlong. Magnifisio is the glamour mare of WA racing. Another Group 1 winner and has now broken the drought and notched back to back victories in Listed grade. This race would have been on her calander for a long time and she should test the great Luckygray. Beyond those two I'm looking for a sharp first-up performance for Countryman, now in the care of Nick Cox, a trainer who gets his imports going fresh. Should run a genuine race at odds.

They should have got the Antonov to land there. Can you believe 20,000 people turned out to watch a routine landing ? Nothing routine about it!

The Italian nonnas didn't turn up with their home made arancini balls and zeppole. Not much of a turn out by the Italian community. Don't blame them. Just some commercial food stalls. Day lacked character. PR shooting itself in the foot again. NFI.

Anyone on course ? It sounds quiet on radio............... Damien the crowd was ok but I think the Italian day thing was better attended whether they were punters or not. The Italians are a passionate type of people and I think the day should be reinstated ...
