Danavana at the price
(1) FATHOMS OF GOLD couldn't have been more impressive when leading throughout to record a 5-1/4 lengths maiden victory at Albany 27/12, when heavily backed into odds-on favouritism. That win was on the back of two second placings, so he has been one of the form horses in the region this season. Will find it harder racing against winners with 59kg on his back, but he should be able to lead comfortably again and the way he powered to the line last start suggests he's the one to beat here. (2) DANAVANA has yet to win beyond 1105 metres but her third-up placing in Ratings 58-plus company at Albany 27/12 last start suggests she shouldn't be troubled stepping up in distance here. Has a 2.5kg advantage over the topweight and its hard seeing her missing a place. We have a bit of time for (5) CANNA LILY and she lost no admirers when a beaten favourite first-up at Mount Barker 5/12 last start. Huge run on that occasion but the quick step up in distance has to be a query second-up here, and (4) SECRET TIMES battled on well after racing wide without cover throughout at Bunbury 7/12 last start and can't be excluded from your First Fours.
