R5. Pink Ladies Day Luncheon - July 9 Handicap - 1 January 1970
|
Very Even Bunch
Not a lot separates Respondent, North Ridge, Tonto and Military Ruler. One of those 4 should be winning and that's the way I'll be playing it in the opening leg of the quaddie. Respondent hasn't won a single race for over 2 years so he's the one of the four who I'll leave out of my selections. His runs at his last 3 starts have been very, very impressive and I'm sure a win is just around the corner, but likely at 2000m not 1600 in my opinion. Expect CJP to get him rolling from the 800 to test the grinding abilities of a few of these. Paul Harvey and Fred Kersley combine with North Ridge and I can't ignore that. One of the training greats and one of the riding greats from a gun barrier with an in-form horse. Tonto broke a long run of outs but may have proven himself as a fresh horse, if that's the case he will go pretty well again here but then taper off. Military Ruler fought hard in the So Who's Harry race, that galloper is gunning for 6 on the bounce so the form must be respected.

They should have got the Antonov to land there. Can you believe 20,000 people turned out to watch a routine landing ? Nothing routine about it!

The Italian nonnas didn't turn up with their home made arancini balls and zeppole. Not much of a turn out by the Italian community. Don't blame them. Just some commercial food stalls. Day lacked character. PR shooting itself in the foot again. NFI.

Anyone on course ? It sounds quiet on radio............... Damien the crowd was ok but I think the Italian day thing was better attended whether they were punters or not. The Italians are a passionate type of people and I think the day should be reinstated ...
