R5. Myer Spring Fashion Trophy - 1 January 1970

Pike vs Pontiff Rd 1
Another race where my top two were separated from the rest. I've settled on Kheleva even though W.Pike has chosen to jump-ship and reunite with Peters mare Antique Belle. Kheleva was unsuited by being caught on the rails unable to wind up when fourth to Son of Something. That race has produced subsequent Saturday winners in Wroughted and The Alleged and with Kheleva returning to his pet distance of 7 furlongs where he has produced 4 wins from 5 starts I am more than happy to have him and the Pontiff on top in Round 1 of Pike vs Pontiff. Antique Belle was sensational first-up behind Rock Magic over 1000m, far from disgraced when settling a long way back on a leader dominated day when fifth to Danablue and then failed to come on last start behind Stagnite when racing ungenerously for Chris Parnham. I think she can bounce back to form here on her way to tackling the Fillies and Mares Series over summer. Fiddler's Elbow will relish a return to Ascot having won at all 4 of his starts on the track. Excellent to see Big Hold Up returning for Wally Mitchell after 1008 days off the scene.
