R5. Grandstand Cup - 1 January 1970
|
Weights vs Form
Interesting little race with the weight swings playing a massive role in people's thinking when dissecting and analysing the Listed Grandstand Cup. Wink and a Nod is weighted to win this race and no doubt Justin Warwick has had it pencilled into his calandar as her target from the outset. She has been forced to lump 59kg at her first two starts this preparation and drops 3.5kg to a luxurious 55.5kg here. Going off their last start meeting in the Bunbury Stakes she meets Young Lionel, Akhedasset and Battle Hero a staggering 7kg better as well as Dream Lifter 3.5kg better. With all that said I've actually thrown the form-book out the window and settled on Battle Hero. He was completely luckless first-up in the Bunbury Stakes when repeatedly held up at crucial stages in running. With W.Pike into the saddle he can run a race here against the odds. Dream Lifter is the second best weighted horse in the race carrying the same amount as he did in the Stakes, he'll give a good sight on speed. Tricky race to pin-point a winner but on paper it's all Wink and a Nod.
