Cougar Nights - Will he run?
Obviously Cougar Nights is the deserving favourite after his soft win at this track over a mile last start, however, first up on a rainy day at Pinjarra he was scratched due to the changing conditions of the track. Should it keep raining then he may not even run which is why I've settled on Midnight Shimmer. She has been a model of consistency throughout her 3 year old days and now into her 4 year old life, personally I thought 1400m would be a little short for her last start but Pike got the job done and she beat a pretty handy line-up with the likes of Thursdays winner Miss Halloween, Sharp Turn, Novadarl, Crystal Gardens and midweek place getter Gondiggin. The step up to a mile should be in her favour and is a proven wet tracker. I've only been back in the country for 5 hours after two weeks in 'sunny' China but it looks as though the rain is here to stay which is why I'm happy to be aboard her and taking on the favourite. Cougar Nights is the class runner but unlike Midnight Shimmer is unproved on a rain affected track. Doubtable is better than recent form suggest and with the sting out of the track could improve if allowed to roll along out in front and set a solid tempo. Unlikely to cross Excellently but hopefully between them they can ensure this is run at a good gallop.

R3. Westspeed 3yo Handicap - Scott EmbryI expect Outlaw Pete to be the obvious and only danger, running on hard and those two may well gap the rest. Keen on the quinella for safety. Properantes looks the best of the rest with Turner jumping off last start win...
