R5. Ascot Gold Cup - 1 January 1970
|
Son of Something - Special
Son of Something has an impeccable record, winner at 8 from 16 and ticks almost every box. Well ridden - Peter Hall with back to back victories (dead-heat included); well drawn - barrier 3; well weighted - 55kg, gains a half kilo advantage over Rebelson from their dead-heat finish in the Northam Cup; 4 wins from 7 starts at Ascot and 1 start over 1800 for 1 victory. Looking to win three on the bounce and definitely looks well placed to do so. Only possible concern is the weight advantage he conceeds Fancy Feet and Cyber Crime. Rebelson almost stole the show in the Northam Cup when dead-heating with Son of Something, races up on speed and sure to give another strong show. Fancy Feet, a showy little mare by Fath with two white socks and a blaze will give her best and with a weight relief from a first-up tilt at the Northam Cup is sure to hit the line hard, probably using this as preparation heading towards a possible Perth Cup assault.

Was annoyed that I missed getting on the quaddie as you often do, getting sidetracked on course, pretty easy after the first leg and paid nearly 10k.

I missed the $61 Octavius but I wasn't far from it plus handy novelties. Good to see others get a profitable result on the Pop Star.

Disposition the clear standout on the card, the riding on display today was ordinary at best.

I suppose when you look at it @mailman505 there was no incentive for EB to win prior to the weights being released for the Railway. Not a good look at all :-\" You know I actually thought this and ignored it! The only way she wins that race is if he tak...

Normally drawing the rails would be toxic for EB but today it was probably the difference between winning and losing. However, I still think she was a bit off her first up run.
