Shengmu - Silver Trade Rd 2
Race four brings the second edition of the Shengmu-Silver Trace clash. Last time they met the quinella was my best bet and it paid a relatively juicy $2.10. Hard to see why they wouldn't finish first and second again here and it looks like a repeat of that bet is on the cards. Last time they met Shengmu jumped straight to the front for Lucy Warwick and Silver Trace did the hard work outside her and looked to have her measure at the top of the straight but couldn't get past going down by a short neck. On that occasion Shengmu carried 1kg more than Silver Trace, however, carries 3kg more than her this time in. For that reason I've settled on Silver Trace to turn the tables. Drawn barrier 2 and Joey Azzopardi's claim brings her down to 54kg I think she will be very hard to hold out. Has the speed to lead but may force Shengmu to spend some petrol in order to find the fence instead. Put in a Mailman special last start over 1200 where failing to show anything and drops back to the much more suitable short course, expect sharp improvement. Kaapander is one of my favourite early 3 year olds and with the addition of blinkers I think he will go to a new level. 1000m is probably too short but second up over 1200m I'll be all over him. Definitely one to follow.

I would understand that comment IF OB had drawn further out than barrier 5,but barrier1 is the last thing you would instruct your rider to do!Mr M Campbell, you have alot of explaining to do!

Shame about the weather (mid to late arvo) for the meeting, but seemed like there was a pretty good crowd on hand and all seemed in good spirits - the club need one or two more of these 'days' throughout the Belmont season, as the three country specific 'days'...
