R4. Country Cup - 1 January 1970

Friar or Flyer
I found it incredibly hard to split my top two selections again here and it was a choice between Oakhurst Flyer and Pants on Friar, in the end I went with the lighter weighted, better drawn and juicier priced mare in Pants on Friar. She was an encouraging first-up victor for new trainer Adam Durrant and looks poised to settle perfectly behind the speed again and prove hard to hold out. Has four minor placings from 6 starts at Ascot and at around the $6 mark represents decent eachway value. Oakhurst Flyer almost stole the show last week but was just reeled in by Fathnoxious in the final stride after leading and controlling the race at her first start over a mile. 1500m does look perfect however, drawn outside noted front runner Alvares means she probably won't be able to set such a slow tempo this week. Combined with her first start at Ascot and her tendency to run second placings I'm willing to take on the favourite in the Country Cup. Need A Lift will be flying home down the middle of the track as will Regimental Pride.
