Big Caroline has a big reputation to uphold in the 3 year old event, Simon Foster has his filly nominated for the Thousand Guineas and the Cox Plate during the Eastern States Spring Carnival. Should she even get within 50km of the airport for a potential trip, let alone actually take the flight, then she must simply be too good for opponents over 1300m here. First up without a trial she seemed to grind late when finishing fourth behind Generous Choice, has since notched up a second career victory and the step up to 1300m looks ideal. She meets Generous Choice 2kg better at the weights from their initial encounter and from barrier 4 should be one of the better bets for the day. Ken's Astar was a super impressive trialler who found very good support first up in betting, crunched from 2.30 into 1.80 in midweek company where he ran around like a primary schooler and put in an average performance. With a run under his belt and an extra 300m could be a sharp improver. Generous Choice was impressive on debut and Noske retains the mount ahead of his other debut winner in Hyde Park Flyer. Barrier 1 is always a concern for me with so many horses struggling to get a run when the rail is at 6m without the advantage of a cutaway in place. Expecting big things from Big Caroline.
