Simon Miller's galloper First Among Equals put rivals to the sword rounding the home corner first-up to win by over 3 lengths. The Exceed and Excel gelding Exceeded expectations first up and will be looking to further Excel over the coming weeks, headed for a profitable 3 year old Summer season. Rounded the corner a little awkwardly but once balanced found a gear that none of his opponents even possessed and shot clear to record an emphatic win. Miller believes he is suited over further and should relish the extra 100m. Fairly short at $1.80 but if he repeats his first-up performance then feel free to watch from the que at the TAB. Do Bookies lay him again or are the nightmares still haunting them? Liberty Rise is another who made bookies shed tears first-up when heavily supported at Northam and flew home off the back of a hot top end speed. With race fitness on his side gets in second on my selections just ahead of the talented Luciani gelding Tonto. Races first-up over 1300 with 59.5kg on his back but will improve with racing and as the distances stretch out, one I'm keen to follow this preparation along with stablemate Hue and Cry, who is sure to be returning soon. Arcadia Rose is a well related filly who was doing her best work late on debut, should get a soft run from the inside gate. Had a nibble, pun intended, from Kalbarri on Wednesday on Shaytarna so will probably roll that into First Among Equals in Race 1 from Adelaide on Saturday.

I would understand that comment IF OB had drawn further out than barrier 5,but barrier1 is the last thing you would instruct your rider to do!Mr M Campbell, you have alot of explaining to do!

Shame about the weather (mid to late arvo) for the meeting, but seemed like there was a pretty good crowd on hand and all seemed in good spirits - the club need one or two more of these 'days' throughout the Belmont season, as the three country specific 'days'...
