A couple of good races, the Scorcher and the Cup. Not a bad day all in all
Happy punting for the new year.
The only way for me is up this year after a very average 2014 on the punt for me.

For other than owners, I can't see how you could get too excited about today's racing at Ascot.

I think its a very good card. Much better than previous years in my opinion. There are some shorties, but thats because they are good horses.

That might be true, but it's not much more than a midweek meeting and the small fields early on will ensure that prices will be low for hours out there today. Yet again the Group status of the Perth Cup is questionable.

go away with your negativity...you always push the same barrow...sniping here and sniping there. if you haven't got anything nice to say.....

I reckon laney and his boy might land themselves a double. will bet around fav in cup and look at respondent, chester road, ask me nicely and red blast. would be lovely for dasher to get home on kirov boy. pop culture is up against a good one but loves the 1800.

good luck and enjoy the day punters.

Well speaking of positive, I hope Danny Miller can steal the Perth Cup today. I love seeing a bold mid-race move. So many of our races here are just sitting and waiting to straighten up and then release the horse. Kirov Boy may run a slow final 600M but putting the sword to the rest of the field early is a bold tactic to watch.

I went to the Hopman Cup about 6 years ago, got some tickets as a Xmas present.

Now if you've read my post about Geraldton, you should have been able to ascertain that I enjoy a very good time.

I would rather undergo root canal treatment than sit through that poor excuse for entertainment ever again. I don't send out Xmas Cards, and hence don't have a Xmas Card List, but if I did the buyer of the present would have been striken off it.

3 hours of my precious time that I will never get back. Now I don't mind watching good tennis on TV, but watching second rate tennis live, would rank right up there with Women's Cricket, The Pinnacles, Staircase to the Moon, Underwater World, Troy Cooley (remember him, the so called King of reverse swing bowling coaching - that was until he moved to Australia) and a blast from the past Pioneer Village, as the most over rated, over hyped things I have ever known.

So Damo, if you can get excited about the Hopman Cup, you should be able to get excited about today's card.

I'm like Big Kev today, but that might be because I have had at decent whack on God Has Spoken at the $17 fixed for the place. If it runs a drum, I may be looking to charter a jet and fly some 18 year old triplets to Broome for the week.

    Have a great day all.

The format of the Hopman Cup is more on entertainment rather than Grand Slam hype, but it is good for kids to see what the top end look like, and what it sounds like, and what it takes.

My son's coach is best mates with the guy who replaces young Nick Kyrgios (back injury) his name is Matt Ebden, as it turns out a local guy. So I'm hoping that with that connection I can motivate my boy off the lounge and the bloody Wii or Playstation or whatever the name of the bloody device is, and get him hitting balls today, as he is playing in a tournament over the next three days. With a bit of luck my boy may meet a World ranked player in the next few days and inspire him to keep on going, even though it's hard when you are 10yo and it is bloody hot on court.

Whilst one of my winners was Let's Kiss n Tell, revealing facts like that is not in the spirit of the forum. We all like a bet and I hope we all bet within our means, so what may seem like a huge collect to someone, might pale into insignificance to others.

I remember Buster O'Malley being interviewed one day about what it was like training for a big punter like Laurie Connell. He said Laurie wasn't a big punter, he bet alot of money but he wasn't a big punter. He said a big punter is someone who has their last available $50 that was meant to feed the family for the week on a horse..... now that takes some rather large balls.

Was I happy with the result? Yes.
Will it cover the Missus' post Xmas spending spree? Yes.
Will I then make her do all sorts of .........? Of Course
Would I be in trouble if the same collect happened today? Yes, because Lukas the collection agent has taken his recently acquired skills from the Masterclass on the weekend to Denham for the festivities of the new year.

However, the late mail is that when collecting the cash last Saturday, he missed the lecture on how to handle the drink. As a result he is currently driving the porcelain bus. There's only one cure Lukas, get back on the horse that so cruelly bucked you off and stick the spurs into it.

I'd like to see a protest in the first after Knuckles decided to put the handbrake on which caused a hell of an issue for Pike on the horse 2nd over the line.
He's done that on a few occasions that I recall and hasn't been crucified for it. Maybe the stewards will grow some nuts this time
