R1. Westspeed Handicap - Gary Wright

Plenty of chances in this opening event today. Magnifisio has built up an imposing record and races very well when fresh and may follow up his first up win this campaign with another here. In form apprentice Chris Parnham brings the weight down to 55kgs , she certainly looks to be one of the big chances in this race. Not A Single Drop has also built up a good record and resumes today, he looks to be the main danger here, he raced in very strong company last campaign and acquitted himself extremely well. Quokka won very impressively last week, this is certainly a stronger field than she beat last week but she does show a great deal of promise. Closing Time and Nazotic also add interest to this first race this afternoon

2. MAGNIFISIO - 3. NOT A SINGLE DROP - 7. QUOKKA

SUGGESTED BET - 2. MAGNIFISIO $20 x $20

Miss Halloween has been beaten by two good horses in her two race starts, today she draws a perfect barrier and retains the services of William Pike, she gets her chance to notch a victory here. She has been close up behind Trichologist and Super Eighty Eight at those two previous starts, nothing of that class is in this race today. Quickwittedcharlie looks the main danger, he did beat home a good one in Jest Envy Her here on May 29, so he looks to be well above average on that performance. Rio Samba has been just behind the placegetters of late and can possibly improve into a place today, and Get Fath should improve on a good third to Testamezzo here a fortnight ago.

    5. MISS HALLOWEEN - 1. QUICKWITTEDCHARLIE - 7. RIO SAMBA

    SUGGESTED BET - 5. MISS HALLOWEEN $40

This is a difficult race with a few good horses not running up to expectation, a few promising horses up in class today, and a couple in good form in weaker races in the country all coming together. Sky Magic was very disappointing at her first start back two weeks ago, there may have been excuses that day according to the stewards report so we will gve her another chance here as she looks the class horse of the field. Jerry Noske to ride today brings the weight down to 57kgs, it would have been difficult to carry the 60kgs to victory I feel. Madam Jewel won a good race up at Northam on opening day up there, and then was possibly a little disappointing in the Country Championship final here, but she did race wide that day so once again there may have been excuses. Comtesse La Gran has been racing in much stronger fields of late, she hasnt recaptured the form that saw her win a Breeders Stakes, but looks a little better suited in this field today, and a last start winner at Kalgoorlie in Planet Claire returns to town, and looks to have good place prospects at least here.

    1. SKY MAGIC - 4. MADAM JEWEL - 2. COMTESSE LA GRAN

This is a bit of a raffle, on looking through the field you could almost make a case for the whole lot of them. Mister Panon will be the selection but not with a lot of confidence, he does have very good form being unplaced only once from seven starts, and looks to be on the way up. This is a very even field though and the dangers are a plenty. Virtual Trader was a very fast finishing second to Secret Ruler last start and is now seemingly at his top and ready to win a race. Marmaa was just nosed out by Sealynx last start and must also have prospects and then we have the Belmont specialist Tricky Syd returning today, as does the first up specialist in Galoubay, add the last start winners in Secret Ruler and Sealynx into the mix and this is probably a race to invest very cautiously on, but Mister Panon will probably start at good odds so we will go a small each way investment on him.

    7. MISTER PANON - 8. VIRTUAL TRADER - 3. MARMAA

    SUGGESTED BET - 7. MISTER PANON $15 x $15

    R5. Tabtouch.mobi Sprint - Gary Wright

A good contest coming up here with Baleen In Me and Grey Cheval the major players. Baleen In Me does have the advantage of race fitness over her main rival and has also drawn inside her, those factors may prove crucial in the run down the straight. Hard to go past a horse with four wins and two seconds in her only six starts and you may just get a reasonable price here, should race on the pace and prove too good this afternoon. Grey Cheval has only been beaten once in five starts so must be in this race up to her ears also, a good race looming here. Military Secret is racing in a rich vein of form here at present and looks a good novelty hope, and the speedy Blacksmith resumes today, he loves Belmont Park and looms as the other chance in a good race

    10. BALEEN IN ME - 8. GREY CHEVAL - 4. MILITARY SECRET

SUGGESTED BET - 10. BALEEN IN ME $50

    R6. Perthracing.com.au Handicap - Gary Wright

Quite a few chances here but will stick with Monumental, he was working up to a win and duly saluted last start, breaking a long losing sequence, maybe he can make it two in a row here. Racing in a stronger field than last start but he only carries 55kgs with the claim for apprentice Chris Parnham, his form this campaign has been very good and it should continue here. Galaxy Prince looks like he will appreciate the 2000 metre journey, he was charging home at both his last two starts and may give the Peters/Williams combination a good chance of a quinella here. One at odds might be Stay Lady Stay, she drops markedly in weight on her last start and is another that looks like she will be suited over this distance. Lethal Jones is always around the place and should also run well today, he is third up this afternoon and should be at his peak now.

    3. MONUMENTAL - 5. GALAXY PRINCE - 12. STAY LADY STAY

    SUGGESTED BET - 3. MONUMENTAL $20 x $20

R7. Hyperion Stakes - Gary Wright

A very good Hyperion Stakes here, the weight for age factor certainly suits a few of these like Ranger and Playing God, but it is a long time since either has won a race. Kerrific put in probably the best run of his career last start when brilliantly winning the Belmont Sprint, he does rise sharply in weight today but it is hard to go past winning form, he does rise markedly in weight on his last start but winning form is good form and I will stick with him in this race today, he has drawn very nicely and should be strong at the finish, having won three of five over the mile. Ranger looks the obvious danger, its just hard to take the odds that will be on offer for a horse that hasnt won for such a long time. Miss Tipsy Topsy ran on very well in the Belmont Sprint, another unsuited at weight for age but she also has a good record over the mile and should be running on. Playing God ran a terrific race first up and was a little disappointing in the Sprint but represents class here and is not to be overlooked, this is a very good race and the highlight of the afternoon

     4. KERRIFIC - 3. RANGER. 16. MISS TIPSY TOPSY

    SUGGESTED BET - 3. KERRIFIC $30 x $30

    R8. Twitter.com/rwwa_thor Handicap - Gary Wright

Black Magic Miss has been the star at Belmont this season with two wins and two very close seconds from four starts, she is racing in great style at present. She does rise in class today but she may just prove up to it, once again its hard to go past good winning form here. Drawn well once again today, she should get a good run in transit and will be the selection in this final race. Sweet Serenity ran on quite well at her first start back and should be improved by that outing, she drops nicely in weight as well here and should appreciate the 1300 metres. Final Cut has been going well and racing consistently, looks a place chance once again here, and Let's Lighten Up had no luck last start and may run a better race today.

    13. BLACK MAGIC MISS - 6. SWEET SERENITY - 14. FINAL CUT

    SUGGESTED BET - 13. BLACK MAGIC MISS $25 x $25

    LLU is my best bet.....

moonlight bay e/w in the big one...21 into 17s on s/bet

I agree Falc i cant get my head around that imposter  Ranger is 4-1  and Moonlight Bay is 20s i thought MB run was the better in the Belmont Sprint
  • Raff_2000Raff_2000    802 posts
They are only stats I know Dungy but Moonlight Bay has no 2nd up form at all. As is sometimes the case with reasonable stayers they sprint well when fresh but then become a bit dour 2nd up. Maybe she can prove those stats wrong today ;)

Galoubay  :-w Poor doesn't even begin to describe that ride. Why Noske came off the fence originally is a mystery. Had she kept looking ahead instead of behind she could have darted back to the fence and taken the opening instead of attempting the impossible .Noske got through a gap to win the previous race but that gap was the size of a football oval not a football lace.

Yes of course I was on it.... still a woeful ride.
